Client Description:
Bentley provided architectural and engineering services for a new fleet maintenance facility for the City of Gainesville. This new facility is located on a 78 acre previously undeveloped site. The building is approximately 50,000 square feet of total area. Of the 50,000 square feet approximately 7,000 square feet is used for administrative space. This space is designed to meet 120 mph wind speeds. The remaining 43,000 square feet of the facility is used as heavy and light duty work bays with maintenance equipment to maintain the City’s fleet. Also included is a refueling facility.
Bentley’s scope for this project included the site design and permitting to accommodate the City’s Material Management Facility. An important feature for this project due to the co-mingling of public and private vehicles was the parking design. We also made the necessary accommodations for large fleet vehicles and equipment. The entire project is designed to achieve LEED Silver Certification. Key LEED design features include: natural daylighting via windows and Solotube skylights, low flow plumbing fixtures, preservation of wetlands, enhanced stormwater runoff quality, and white reflective roof finish to lower heat gain. Bentley worked in tandem with another design team to co-locate this facility with a recycling center already under design by the City.
