Another niche began to emerge for Bentley: maintenance facility design. After completion of its first maintenance facility for the Florida Department of Transportation in 1992, Bentley went on to design more than 20 more for the agency and other public entities. To this day, Bentley still maintains its competitive edge in maintenance facility design. They perform various functions, such as administration offices, vehicle repair shops, storage facilities, and refueling stations.
Hurricane Marilyn hit the US Virgin Islands on September 13, 1995 and caused major devastation. This residential area lies just beyond where Bentley’s Tutu Park Mall is located. The storm hit with gusts up to 129 mph and destroyed about 80% of the homes and businesses. Bentley’s project survived this exceptional event with only minor structural damage to the mall.
