Introducing one of Bentley’s Project Architects, Gail Cleavenger. Gail has 16 years of Architectural Design experience in Florida. Her experience includes designs for community parks and recreation facilities including community centers, pavilions, splash pads, and restroom/locker room facilities. As Project Architect, Gail’s primary responsibilities include schematic design, leading other design professionals, construction documentation and specification preparation. Time at Bentley:
I started Leap Year Day!– Feb 29th in 2016 (roughly 2 years ago).
Education and Certifications:
Bachelor of Arts, Architecture, University of Miami. Licensed Architect.
What is your role at Bentley?
What made you want to be in the architecture/engineering industry and what made you choose Bentley?
Why the A/E industry? I see it as an opportunity to introduce aesthetics in design for a typically “technically oriented” workplace culture. Why Bentley? – Great Clientele!
What is your biggest accomplishment?
Professionally with Bentley it would have to be serving as the Project Architect for the upcoming Westmonte Community Center rebuild for the City of Altamonte Springs. Personally – Being a Mom!
What is your favorite project you have worked on at Bentley and why?
Aside from the aforementioned Community Center; I am also excited about the SunTrax project. It represents the future of transportation engineering and the buildings we designed will be “Green Buildings”.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I worked for a non-profit arts organization in NYC (Socrates Sculpture Park) when I graduated from college in the mid-90s.
What is your favorite lifehack?
Don’t be afraid to be labeled “old school” if you have a passion for your approach and it works for you.
What is the most played song in your music library?
First by Lauren Daigle.
Before working at Bentley, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Most unusual would probably be acid etching personalized custom designs on mirrors.
What is one fun fact about yourself that would surprise people?
I love the martial arts.
Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
I am from an Island (Merritt Island) and I love both the rustic natural landscape on the Isle of Skye in Scotland and the beauty of aquamarine water in the Keys. Must be an “island” girl at heart…. ❤
What is a hidden talent that you have?
I can speak igpa atinla.
What is one piece of advice you want to give someone who is thinking about pursuing a career in the A/E industry?
Focus on getting your professional license and you’ll go far in your career. All of our clients are looking for experts on their projects; so take on all opportunities for self-education, seminars, networking and you will be a great asset to your self and the company you represent!
